This is not a typical fast action young athletic meet or about record breaking sport events. It's a friendly gathering of mature Albertans promoting recreational activity to pursue greater levels of physical, social, intellectual and creative achievement through friendly competition and participation.
It is a provincial sport meet held every two years in smaller communities by bringing Albertans together in the spirit of true sportsmanship and camaraderie among senior citizens.
This year the City of Calgary hosted the 2013 Alberta 55 Plus Winter Games - a city with a reputation for Games Excellence. Check the website (www.calgary2013games.ca) for more information.
For me, it was my first time to be involved in a province-wide event as an official volunteer photographer. It was quite an experience to meet very important people, the history makers of the Calgary Olympics 1988, the organizers, volunteers and the participants who reminded me of my parents. Yes I see my parents in them they (the participants) kept me smiling during the 4 day event, they are a big inspiration why I volunteered for this event by capturing the moments when they score a goal, hit the bulls eye, fall on the ice or just having a good time and socialize with fellow young at heart Albertans.
I would like to thank the organizers (Judy Eng-Hum, David Saengsathit and Susan Palanca) who invited and made me part of this once in a blue moon opportunity.
